Just what I was looking for... reminds me of my mom taking me to get baked goods when I was kid. Had the pineapple bun and egg tart. Kids had chocolate muffins and coconut macaroons.

I used to come here in the in my younger years all the time for their buns and strawberry cake. Now I stopped back here for nostalgia reason and bought a $1.50 egg tart and they definitely changed the recipe on it. The custard is now more orange yellow and the crust is lighter and crispier trying to compete with what the new public taste buds are going after. It made me think of the old days with happy memories and how the egg tart used to be yellow with the crust still on the doughy and thicker side before. This new egg tart I do must say is a good improvement. Now I want to go to my other bakery that makes Macau egg tart because the crust reminds me of it. LoL oh yeah I will be eating double egg tarts this day!  Today had a nice young girl to wait on me to ask what I wanted and help me with my order. I am not sure if this happens daily, but it was nice. Today was a busy Sunday at Golden Gate Park with many events going on the Flower Pianos, free Zumba, farmers market and flea market that I saw when I passed by this area today.

This place makes the most delicious cakes, layered with fresh strawberries! We've ordered from here a few times for parties, and it's always a crowd pleaser! Will happily recommend this place to anyone in need of a cake.

Right next to the N Judah line, Sunset Bakery offers a selection of cakes, pastries, and more.  Here, you can find a variety of traditional Chinese buns with fillings from sweet (such as pineapple) to savory (such as pork).  This bakery also has more familiar items like sugar cookies and apple turnovers.  After looking around at the different buns, I got a red bean bun to take with me.

The red bean bun was sweet (a little too sweet) and the dough was soft.  The red bean paste filling was rich and smooth like cream.  The bun was a wonderful snack for the early afternoon, and it was a good size to eat on the go.

If I pass through the neighborhood again, I'll be sure to drop by Sunset Bakery to try another delicious bun.

The signs that this a good Asian bakery, and makes delicious cake:
1. It's not sweet.
2. It's spongy and not dry.
3. They write complex Chinese characters.

I really enjoyed the birthday cake from here.

Great service. Diana was very accommodating and got me a big order completed in one hour, in the afternoon. I came all the way down from Roseville to buy cocktail buns. First I went to my old standby on Grant Street but the "gatekeeper" there who had the entrance blocked off quoted me something RIDICULOUS for cocktail buns. I said you know I drove for 2 1/2 hours and been coming here since 50 years and $2.00 per cocktail buns is ridiculous. Are you filling them with gold or butter? Anyways, they have lost a LONG TIME customer - but I'm so glad I left because Sunset Bakery, hands down has THE BEST cocktail buns - and they are HUGE!  So, now they have a long time customer in me - besides that parking is SO MUCH EASIER in the avenues than in Chinatown and you don't have to PAY for parking here! Win Win for me!  Also I got pineapple buns and curry beef turnovers (delicious!) From now on this is my go to place for my Gai Mei bao and Bo Lo bao fix.

Their chestnut cream cake is best in town! They use fresh chestnut and is thick layer in between layers sponge cake.  Such a hidden gem in the City.
